Is it Organic? Look for Number 9

 What is a PLU Number

Those annoying stickers that are placed on produce are called PLU stickers or Product Look Up numbers.

The first number on these stickers tells you if the produce you are looking at is actually Organic or GMO.  Remember the saying "If it's 9 it is fine".  The number nine (9) means Organically Grown. So, the next time you are looking for Organically grown produce always look for the number nine (9).

Bar Codes

If for some reason your produce does not have a PLU sticker (mentioned above) on it, look for the Bar Code.  Again, if it begins with the number nine (9) it is fine and Organically grown.

USDA Organic

USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) is supposed to place a sticker on any produce or food product like meats that are actually Organically grown.  Look for these stickers.

GMO Produce

GMO or Genetically Modified Organism is a food that has been genetically modified with pesticides so that farmers can get a greater yield during harvest.  Thus, farmers are making more money and there is more of the product on the market.

The worst foods to purchase that hold their GMO's the most are:

Soybeans
Corn
Squash

These are the top three (3) foods that retain the GMO that has been put in the seed.  GMO's can be anything from a by-product of Agent Orange (which is placed in corn seeds).  These GMO's provide the product with absolutely no nutritional value whatsoever, so you are basically eating poison and not obtaining any nutrition.

So remember the phrase "Nine (9) is Fine" and the produce is organic.  Eating healthy choices sometimes means you may have to change your diet a little.  Always purchase Organic for a healthier you.
