It is time to dust off the sewing machine and start sewing once again. Sewing is not hard to do and can be fun and rewarding.
You can take old sheets and make curtains or even a pair of pants to wear around the house. Take old t-shirts and turn them into a memory quilt. Making repairs to your own clothes will save you a ton of money. Make something old new again.
If you do not know how to sew there are plenty of YouTube videos that will get you started plus many sewing machine retailers provide sewing classes for the beginner. Teaching your children to sew is teaching them a valuable art.
Start out simple with using straight seams at first such as curtains. Once you get this mastered you can move onto a pair of pants which is also easy and basically straight seams.
It seems as though sewing is a lost art. It is time to bring sewing back to the surface. There is no end what you can make. Get your creative juices flowing. You never know, you might just end up making items that you can sell at craft fairs.
Teaching your children how to sew on a button is also valuable as most people who loose a button on a shirt tend to throw the shirt away. STOP! However, if you do have an old shirt that can no longer be worn make sure you take off the buttons and put them in a jar to be used on another project.
