Dehydrating Fruit is Healthy

Take Advantage of Fruit Sales

I recently purchased 2 pounds of fresh strawberries as they were on sale for $2.00 per pound. I love to take advantage of fruit sales for a couple of reasons. First, I am not a great fruit eater, however, if dehydrated I eat them as a healthy snack. Second, dehydrated fruit is great to add to your morning cereal and salads. The dehydration process is frugal because you can take advantage of fruit sales, dehydrate your fruit and therefore there is absolutely no waste since your fruit is not turning moldy and rotting in your refrigerator. Waste not want not and saving money.

A Wonderful Kitchen Gadget

A dehydrator (or two) is one of the best kitchen gadgets you can own. Dehydrators save you money through preserving food, they are not expensive and they pay for themselves.

It only takes a few moments to prepare your fruit for your dehydrator. With strawberries, I removed the tops, washed the fruit to remove soil and then sliced them up in even slices. From start to finish this process took me less than 15 minutes. The dehydrator does the rest. I started this batch around 1:00 pm and let it run until I woke up the next morning.

One Pint of Dried Strawberries

The 2 pounds of strawberries after they have been dehydrated fits in a pint size canning jar.

I simply leave this jar on my counter top and eat a few slices for a healthy snack or I add it to my morning cereal.

Dehydrated strawberries added to your cereal is healthier than purchasing the boxed cereal that contains strawberries as there is no added sugar or other preservatives to keep the strawberries fresh. Who knows how long your fruit cereal stays on the shelves. Have you ever looked at the expiration date?

Take the jar of dehydrated strawberries to work and you have a healthy snack. Mark the jar that 4 slices equals one strawberry. This way you are not eating 2 pounds at one setting then you end up having to run to the bathroom.

Enjoy a healthy snack the entire family will enjoy. Your children will love these.
