We have all done it. We have either placed aluminum foil under the burners on our stove top or have lined the bottom of our oven with foil.
Why do we do this? Well for a couple of reasons. Either the metal burner liner needs replacing because it is covered in burned on food or we don't want to clean our stove tops and ovens from spills.
Aluminum foil when placed under a stove top burner or used as a liner on the bottom of the oven actually conducts the heat pushing more heat to your heating coils and burning them out quickly. Remember, heat rises.
Replace Burner Liners
If your burner liner is disgusting simply replace it. They come in a 4 pack and are less than $5.00. These metal burner liners do not force the heat back to your burners like aluminum foil does. Thus you do not have to replace the burners themselves.
Clean Up Spills
Cleaning up spills on your stove or inside your oven should come as natural as cleaning your dishes after every meal. Not to mention by cleaning up spills you will cut down on cockroaches and your burners won't be burning off the spilled food making your house smell disgusting.
Cleaning your oven does not take up a whole lot of time. If you have a self cleaning oven all the better. If you don't that's okay. Purchase some oven cleaner (read directions) and your oven can be cleaned in an hour.
*NOTE: If you have a pet bird put your bird outside while you are spray cleaning your oven. Oven cleaner is a deadly toxic to birds.
Who in the world would even feel like cooking a healthy meal if your stove top looks like this? I know I wouldn't.
There are too many people who are living like the photo to the left. This is just gross.
When you have a clean stove top and a clean oven you are cutting down on cockroaches and the gross burnt smell of spilled food burning. There is no excuse other than pure laziness to have a stove that looks like this.
Stop Oven Drips
If you are baking a pie or casserole in your oven and are afraid it will spill over simply place a baking sheet under your pie or casserole to catch the drips. This way you do not have to clean your oven so often.
