How to Make Condiments

Homemade Breadcrumbs

This is so easy it's ridiculous. Even though bread really isn't that good for you, there is too much bread that is thrown into the trash. Instead of wasting bread why not turn it into homemade breadcrumbs.

  • Stale bread and even crusts that have been cut off
  • Olive Oil
  • Garlic Powder, Sage, Rosemary
Note: Use any combination of herbs and spices that you enjoy. Or you can leave out the herbs and spices for unseasoned homemade breadcrumbs.
  1. Heat oven to 250 degrees Fahrenheit (120 degrees Celsius)
  2. Lay stale bread on a baking sheet
  3. Drizzle each piece of bread with a little Olive Oil
  4. Sprinkle on your herbs and spices if you wish
  5. Bake for 20 minutes or until bread is completely dry and crumbly.
Crumble the baked and dried bread into your Food Processor; a blender can be used as well. Turn on your food processor or blender until all the bread has been mixed into crumbs.  Store in an airtight container or place in freezer bags 1 Cup at a time, roll the freezer bag until the air is removed and freeze. Place the smaller bags into a larger freezer bags and note on the bag what it is.

This way you are not wasting any of the breadcrumbs you have just made and you already know you have 1 Cup of breadcrumbs in each bag.

Homemade Mayonnaise

Another super easy condiment to make as you have all ingredients already in your home.

  • 3 Egg Yokes (not the white)
  • 1 Teaspoon Spicy Mustard (Regular mustard if you do not like the spice)
  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Sunflower Oil or Vegetable Oil
  • Juice of 1/2 Lemon (not the lemon juice that comes in a container)
  1. Place 3 Egg Yolks into your blender or food processor
  2. Add Mustard
  3. Start to puree'
  4. Slowly start adding the Oil until you obtain a thick mayonnaise consistency
  5. Add juice of 1/2 Lemon
  6. Salt and Pepper
Only use salt and pepper at the end

Store bought mayonnaise contains soy. So if you are trying to go gluten free you may just want to make your own mayonnaise as you need it.

Store in an air tight container in your refrigerator. Lasts 1 week

Russian Dressing

Here is another simple homemade condiment recipe. Again, all ingredients you already have in your refrigerator or cupboard.

  • 1 Cup Homemade Mayonnaise or Store Bought Mayonnaise
  • 1 Teaspoon finely grated onion or 1 Teaspoon Horseradish
  • 1/4 Cup Ketchup
  • 1 Teaspoon Worcestershire Sauce ** This contains soy **
  • 1 Tablespoon Relish - the Sweet Relish works best
  • 1 Teaspoon fresh chopped Chives or Green Onions
Mix together and store in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Lasts for 1 Week.

Why purchase condiments that are loaded with too much salt and preservatives when you can make these yourself and you know you are eating healthier and saving money.

If you are a person that ends up wasting salad dressing or mayo because you can't use them up fast enough, make them instead. Save your money. Be Frugal, Eat Healthy and Live Happier.
